Jobs and Businesses are Leaving
Ward 10 deserves leadership grounded in practical solutions—not ideology. Unfortunately, Council Member Aisha Chughtai has chosen to promote a radical far-left agenda that ignores the everyday needs of families in Ward 10.
- Crime is rising, but Chughtai repeatedly voted against recruiting more police officers, even as Minneapolis operates with over 100 fewer officers than required by law. (1, 2)
- Public safety patrols are disappearing, because Chughtai is “firm in my vision for a police-free future.” (3)
- Encampments are spreading, while small businesses close their doors and homeowners struggle under higher costs. (17, 18, 19, 20)
- Taxes are climbing, thanks to Chughtai’s relentless support for excessive spending and socialist priorities.
This isn’t leadership. It’s neglect.
Anti-Police, Pro-Disorder
Aisha Chughtai is an outspoken anti-law enforcement politician. She has publicly stated that the police “don’t protect or serve us” and has called for dismantling the Minneapolis Police Department. She has even said she is “firm in my vision for a police-free future.” (3, 4, 5)
Her record:
- Voted twice against funding for MPD recruitment and retention, despite a critical officer shortage. (1, 2)
- Advocated replacing MPD with a Department of Public Safety—a plan Minneapolis voters already rejected. (6)
- Refused to acknowledge the killing of a police officer in her ward, choosing instead to criticize police presence. (7, 8)
By demonizing police and blocking reforms, Chughtai has weakened safety across Ward 10.
Chughtai's Far-Left Socialist Agenda
Chughtai is endorsed by the Democratic Socialists of America Twin Cities Chapter, a radical organization that openly calls to “burn down institutions” instead of fixing them. (9, 10)
This is not progressive problem-solving—it’s destructive ideology.
Radical Housing Policy That Hurts Renters
Chughtai pushes extreme rent control that would devastate housing availability. She supports a 3% cap on annual rent increases with no exceptions. (11)
Evidence proves this approach fails:
- After St. Paul enacted a similar policy, new multifamily building permits collapsed. (12)
- When asked for a successful example, Chughtai pointed to San Francisco—where construction hit a decade low and median rents are over $3,100. (13, 14, 15, 16)
Her policy would worsen the housing crisis in Minneapolis by driving away investment and reducing affordable housing options.
No Real Plan for Encampments & Homelessness
Instead of long-term solutions, Chughtai promotes political stunts:
- In 2022, she tried to block the removal of a dangerous encampment. (17)
- She proposed halting all encampment closures—an idea deemed “performative” by her own colleagues. (18, 19)
- She called clearing unsafe encampments “cruelty” and suggested providing water, restrooms, and needle disposal instead of moving people into real housing. (20)
This approach enables dangerous encampments to grow unchecked, threatening public safety and neighborhood stability.
We Can Do Better for Ward 10
Vote for Lydia Millard for City Council for Ward 10
On November 4th, Ward 10 voters will have a choice.
- A choice between ideology and practicality.
- A choice between unsafe streets and safe neighborhoods.
- A choice between rising costs and affordable living.
We Can Do Better for Ward 10. Vote Lydia Millard for City Council.
Ward 10 Needs the Basics Not An Ideology
Ward 10 voters deserve leadership that puts residents first—not far-left ideology. What we need is simple:
- Safe neighborhoods: Fund public safety, support police, and keep criminals off our streets.
- Good paying jobs: Support small businesses and attract new employers.
- Affordable living: Keep property taxes under control and prioritize families.
- Practical progress: Focus on results, not slogans.
The Chughtai Uptown ignores these basics. Minneapolis deserves leaders who will build partnerships, deliver common-sense solutions, and bring our neighborhoods together.
